Who are we?
A family of five from the Bay Area, we started Trippin’ with Kids in 2016 before embarking upon a full summer of travel through Europe. This was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure we’d been saving for since before we even had kids. This blog is meant to be the place we capture our experiences (good and bad), and the memories we make, so that we can share them with family and friends. All five of us will be writing here, with a commitment from each member of the family to write at least one blog post per week. Our 15-year-old daughter (“Potter”) is a huge fan of Harry Potter, reads several books per week, and is a budding actress. “Cupcake,” our 10-year-old daughter, is an aspiring artist and entrepreneur with her heart set on opening a bakery in San Diego. “Steve,” our 8-year-old son, is best described as a tornado of movement and questions, with particular passions for birding, baseball, piano and Garden Warfare. Each blog post will be their own words, from their perspective, with maybe just a bit of editing from Dad. And then there’s Sherpa Momma and I. When Trippin’ with Kids began, we were each taking a break from long careers in Silicon Valley, to be present with our kids, explore the world, and prove to ourselves that our 40’s can be every bit as exciting as our 20’s and 30’s were. Today, we feel the same way, and take every opportunity we can to explore the world with our kids, before they decide its not cool to hang with Mom and Dad.
Why now?
We had been dreaming about this type of trip for a long time. We picked the summer of 2016 because our oldest was still young enough to not resent her parents for taking her away from her friends, and our youngest was just old enough to appreciate the trip, and remember it always. So to Europe we went, hearts and minds open to a wonderful adventure.
And a wonderful adventure it was! So much so that Trippin’ with Kids lives on, a living journal of our family travels!
