Four Book Series to Start the Summer
When going on vacations, I always have a dilemma – what books to bring? On this trip, I have decided to bring my new kindle, which is a device that has many books on it for you to read, any time you want to read them. Already, I have many books on my kindle, including the Harry Potter series, the Divergent series, and the Hunger Games series. However, those books I have already read and enjoyed.
I’m looking for something new to keep me occupied, a great series that will have me hooked. Luckily, I have been looking for some books. At my school library, I read the first book of the Pellinor series, which was called The Naming. This book is a fantasy, and has the element of magic that I love. It is about a girl (Maerad) finding and accepting her destiny, and her brave adventures with her companion Cadvan. I loved every page of it, and searched continuously for the next one in the school library. Sadly, the next book was not there, but now I will be able to read this amazing, four-book series in Europe!!
When I was talking to one of my friends, she recommended that I read a book called The Giver, which sounds interesting and is also the first of a four-book series. From what I have heard, The Giver takes place in a time where there is no color at all, and people get assigned jobs. Everyone loves this ideal world, but when the main character gets his job, he realizes how messed up things are.
Surely eight books won’t be enough consume, so I will have to search for more.
To add to my findings, at the beginning of the school year I read another great book series called The Lorien Legacies, which contains many swear words, but is otherwise an amazing series filled with adventure. I think I will reread this series, since the ending (or last book) is supposed to come out on June 28th, and I want to refresh my memory. The Lorien Legacies are about these nine teenagers (well, ten) that came to Earth as tiny kids (because their planet was destroyed by another people- the Mogadorians) and each have special powers. The Mogadorians are trying to both kill the 9 survivors and take control over Earth. These sci-fi books are amazing, full of adventure and hardship, and I had a hard time waiting for the last book to come out!
Another book series I enjoyed (called the Lunar Chronicles) recently came out with a prequel/background story that I could read also. The Lunar Chronicles are each very loosely based on a fairy tale (Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Snow White Rapunzel) and takes place in a time way far in the future, where there are many advances in technology. There are also people who live on the moon, called Lunars, and they have the special ability to change the bioelectricity in the air, which allows them to manipulate people into thinking and doing what the Lunars want them to do. Basically, the queen of Luna is evil and wants to take control of earth, so people are searching for the only other heir to the Lunar throne – the lost Princess Selene. I loved this series, both because of the element of magic and also the characters and the way the author builds them.
This is a good start. Maybe not all the books I’m going to read, but at least I have some idea of where I will start. If you have recommendations for others to add to my list, please let me know!
I love books! And I love that I am able to bring them with me to Europe, and read them on long plane, train, and car rides.
