- Cooking in Italy
I am going to tell you about my experience cooking in Italy. We had gone to Gattogiallo before and were excited about doing our cooking class there. We started of by making bread that would be used for a party later. We had to add like I don’t know maybe six bags of flour, and a lot of yeast. After we were done with that we started on the focaccia. Because the focaccia takes a long time to cook we did not get to eat it or take it home, but we did get to make it and that was fun. Potter and I got to knead the bread and it was fun because we had kneaded bread for the pizza party. Read Potter’s blog post about that if you haven’t already. There is a special way that you do it so that you don’t kill the yeast.
After we made the focaccia, I helped Alessandro (the chef) with his mother’s recipe for Cantucci (biscotti). And when you are baking like that you don’t use your mixer. You use your hands. It hurts your hands after a while. But after all the kneading and baking, the cantucci were absolutely good. They were like heaven.
After I was done with them I helped Potter make the pasta. We put the long pasta strips through the press and put in a bunch. We made them until there were no more pasta to put through.
Eating everything that we made was too much food, so we had to take some of it home. It was so good. We started with this pasta course. It was pasta with a tomato sauce. It was really good. Next we went to the meat course. It was chicken and potatoes. I had a drumstick and it was really good. The potatoes were heavenly. They were soft and just melted in your mouth. Next we had the cantucci that I made. They gave us chocolate to dip it in and it was so good. Like something delicious you’ve never tasted before!
